Basic Baby Guide for First Time Parents

Each year, about seven hundred thousand babies are born in the UK, which means that about 1.4 million people become parents. Many of these new dads and mums are first-time parents. In this article we will review a few new baby basics for all those frazzled first-time parents.

Most new parents, especially the dads, worry about accidentally dropping their new bundle of joy. Therefore, the first thing a couple should learn to do together is how to carry and handle their child.

Because babies have extremely weak neck muscles and large heads, a parent must always support the child's head when they hold or carry them. This is especially important to remember during the first four to eight weeks. After a few months, the infant will be able to guide and support his head on his own without much help from mum or dad. Baby Care Tips for Expecting Parents

Few parents are prepared for how chaotic the first few weeks with your newborn will be. In this article we will review a few simple tips that will hopefully make the transition a little smoother. Each tip was provided by an experienced parent or grandparent who has been through it all before.

The first and most important piece of advice we have for you is to take a class on infant care at the hospital. Expecting parents can take these classes together and learn all of the baby basics from holding to bathing to feeding. It is the best thing first time parents can do to help prepare them to care for their child.

Since many deliveries are planned these days, new parents often know when to expect their bundle of joy. Still, few of them are prepared for just how much food and cleaning supplies they will need in the first few weeks. And we're not talking about food for the baby. New parents are often so busy during this period that they will not have time to eat or to look for Baby Christmas Ornaments Therefore, it is always a good idea to buy a lot of frozen or prepared meals. A Great Responsibility

As the next generation of people are living longer and more healthy lives, we, as parents, are often faced with dual or even triple responsibilities which has changed the way many of us live our lives today and irrevocably altered the demographics of the country.

Our parents are living to a ripe old age compared to fifty or one hundred years ago. They are also generally much fitter in older age and can take care of themselves for longer, however, there comes a point when they can no longer look after themselves and we, as their children, take over responsibility for them. This may involve financial or practical assistance even if they are lucky enough to have live in care .

We are naturally responsible for our own children too, but this stage is lasting longer and longer as many people are marrying later or staying with their parents for other reasons, such as not being able to find a job or saving for their first home. (more...)

Together Time

One of the trends of modern day living is that families do spend less time together than they used to. It used to be a cardinal rule that they would take their meals together and make conversation about their day but now you find people with TV dinners, watching the telly instead of spending time with their family.

This is a challenge that every modern day parent faces. Families are busy and many people have second jobs but it is important for a family to spend as much time together. Activities such as scrabble, a friendly football game or an English course for kids and all the family will mean that members of a family are interacting and conversing.

Many people seem to have lost the art of conversation which is incredibly sad for a species which relies on interaction and familial support. People are now more solitary than they used to be, often without the family and friends network that brings out the best in us. (more...)

Holidays with the Kids

It is often quite nerve-wracking and expensive to take the kids on holiday, especially when they are young and especially the first couple of times! There are all the inherent worries and dangers that all new parents worry about, whether it is a resort in Tunisia or accommodation in Costa del Sol.*

Will the hotel be suitable for kids? You hear of nightmares on consumer programmes about filthy hotels which look very different in reality than on the brochure! Luckily these are few and far between and most people are perfectly satisfied with their hotels.

Will the kids eat foreign food? Or will they starve for the whole week…On that front there are usually no worries although I was known to pack the ketchup when my son was small. Kids are versatile and if they are hungry enough they will eat what they are given. Eating exotic food is a great exercise in opening up their taste buds and letting them experience other cultures. Simple Tips for Single Mums

Being a single parent is far from easy. The responsibility of raising and disciplining a child may seem like a daunting task and at times it may feel as though you've reached the end of your tether. But every obstacle can be crossed with a calm and clear mind. Technology casts its shadow on all aspects of our lives. Even with its ample benefits and blessings on our life, we can sometimes have too much of technology. It is not rare to find families addicted to technology of one kind or another.

Remember the time when you thought you couldn't do it alone, were browsing singles sites or Sites for dating, while the kids spoke incessantly on their respective phones? Addiction to technology is not restricted to kids, and parents can be equally dependant on their own choice of device. Now, there are no hard and fast rules of single parenting, or in fact parenting, but the basis of good parenting is helping your kids understand things on their own.

If you want to change certain things about your lifestyle as a family, make small changes and later talk about whether these are making a positive difference. Single parents could be overcompensating for the lack of two parents, which can result in lax disciplining. (more...)

Handling Temper Tantrums

As a nearly-new parent, you should be getting the hang of how to love and dress your girls However, as your child begins to grow up, new challenges will continue to present themselves.

Perhaps the worst of these, and the most difficult to deal with, is the temper tantrum. Toddlers are famous for their outburst, and, to a certain extent, these are an integral part of the maturing process. However, as a parent, it is important that you don't allow them to go unchecked.

Experts suggest that the best way to respond to your child's tantrum is to simply ignore it. It is important that the toddlers learn they will not get what they want by screaming and shouting. If your child has an outburst in a public place, like a shopping centre or a library, be prepared to fend off worried outsiders who will try to get involved in the situation. Simply explain your strategy and thank them, politely, for their concern. (more...)

Taking Out Family Health Cover

If you are a parent, then you will understand how important it is to have a well-structured and comprehensive family health insurance policy. You never know when your young child might pick up a bug at school or fall in the playground, and because of this, it is vital to be able to pay for medical treatment at any given moment.

Choosing a good insurance provider is often a difficult business, and if this is the first time that you are taking out family cover it may be necessary for you to consult a few basic principles in terms of which your search should be conducted.

To begin with, you will want to determine which companies are popularly considered to be the best. There are various strategies by means of which to find this kind of information but invariably the best one is simply personal recommendation. Ask parents at your son or daughter's school which family health insurance policy they use and whether they would suggest others and buy into that brand as well. (more...)

Internet Safety Using Parental Control Software

Whilst many of us are cautious towards our children's use of the internet many of us do not know how to go about ensuring our children's internet use remains safe and how we can prevent them from becoming exposed to dangers whilst still allowing them their freedom. Many of us have heard of parental control software that allow us to block sites from our child's searches but few people use them – either thinking they are too complicated or too cumbersome to use- or know the full extent of safety features they make available. With that in mind we thought it would be worth looking at the features and benefits that parental control software allows. When it comes to raising awareness about internet safety for parents these kinds of tools are worth considering especially if you cannot or choose not to supervise your child's internet use physically.

So we now turn to the features the most common and most well-known of which is blocking your child from accessing inappropriate content. This is the most well-known and often the most beneficial of all the features available. This feature simply blocks your children from accessing anything that would be deemed "adult". Advanced versions of this software feature include blocking inappropriate advertisements on appropriate sites. These filters work by blocking certain terms and sites and are constantly being updated by specialist who designate site appropriateness. Many versions of these software's allow you to control what is allowed access to so you can adjust settings based on your child's developmental progress. This software feature can block adult sites, age restricted sites, sites with violent and inappropriate content as well as other sites such as file sharing sites and chat rooms. Blocking these sites from your child's access not only stop them from viewing inappropriate or harmful content but it also stops them being exposed to harmful people.

The second set of features to be addressed are tracking features which allow you to monitor what your child views and with whom they are talking to. The most "invasive" of these are direct monitoring or remote viewing features which let you view what your child is viewing from another computer. This form of monitoring is less directly invasive towards your child's privacy whilst still allowing you complete control of monitoring your child's online activity. Less invasive and time consuming monitoring options include report tracking and chat room tracking which records all the sites your child visits and any conversations they may be having online. These forms of tracking features allow you to monitor your child's use of the internet and you can simply skim over their visits and conversations without having to invade their privacy too much. This tracking will often flag up potential problems for you so that you can monitor it without having to spend too much time which we all as parents know is in short enough supply as it is. LeapPad by LeapFrog

As a parent the most important thing you can gift your child is education. We earn, work hard, struggle in life and even fight for our kids, to make them a better person and prepare them for a tough life ahead. Children toys are their first companions after parents, so the best choice in that category is a must. Fortunately a wide variety of educational toys are available on shelf, one of them being leapfrog toys that are not only fun but educational as well.

As a mother things I look for in any toy are the toy's interaction ability, its age limit, price and color. Age limit for Leap Frog Products is from new born to nine years and they offer set children colors for all ages. That leaves me with the price factor, which is no doubt high but the value for money is unmatched. After using a product one can tell that it was worth the money.

I bought Leap Frog Leap Pad for my five year old girl for 100 dollars! I know, but with Christmas on its way, I just felt like its time to treat my kid and trust me, the toy is worth each dollar spent. It is a learning tablet with built-in camera and library of over a hundred online games. The online games are focused on developing children mathematical and verbal skills as well. So that's a plus. It is basically touch screen but is also available with a stylus; which works as your child's electronic pen and he learns how to grip and solve equations online. Buying this will definitely keep her from fiddling with her Dad's I Pad. The only demerit I see in Leap Pad is that it works on child's brain and not on the body. I would rather have an Interactive Video Leap Pad where my daughter can learn as well as play in real. When observed closely, mostly educational toys are like that. They make your child sit and work like an adult but they do not make her move. Guess I need to find something else for that. As for the Leap Pad, if you intend to buy this Christmas, do not forget to take an updated version of Leap Frog explorer with it. That will make your life much easier. Happy learning to your kid!
