The first and most important thing we want you to know is that you are not alone. Most new parents worry that they will not be able to care for their babies. They worry that they will make a mistake and do something inexplicably stupid, like feeding their baby a burning hot bottle at 2 O'clock in the morning.

Now, we can't promise you that you won't make mistakes, because you will. We all do. But you must trust your paternal instincts. Babies are simple. They eat, they cry, and they dirty their nappies. That's about it. If the mother chooses to breastfeed her baby, the nurses at the hospital will show her how. They will also instruct both parents on the proper way to dress, change, and hold their babies. They really are angels, those nurses.

The one tip we have for you is about cleaning the umbilical cord stump. Now, some doctors believe that you should simply leave it alone, while others recommend that you clean it with rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs at least once a day. If you decide to clean the stump, just make certain that you change the nappy first. This will limit the risk of bacteria.
